Highland Tennis Pro-Am November 8,
2008
Second
Annual Highland Tennis Pro-Am…Mission Accomplished!
The Highland Country Club tennis pro-am came to a close around
5:00 p.m. on Saturday the 8th and there was one
resounding feeling...We Did It!
Back
on October 18th, rain wiped out a big day of tennis,
and a lot of preparation, but we re-scheduled for November 8th
with high hopes. Once
again, rain fell in the morning, but this time we waited it out,
changed our format, and got our event in.
Close to 24 members, and various guests battled it out in
six game sessions with the talented pros on hand including Tim
Wilkison, Oscar Blacutt, and several outstanding female pros.
The mixed doubles exhibition did not disappoint as Tim
Wilkison and Simona Galik rallied from a 2-7 game deficit to knot
it at 8 games all before losing in the tie-breaker.
The pros were very impressed with Highland’s facility,
and I feel certain we could bring them back in the future.
The
tennis staff would like to thank all the members who participated
and supported the event, and look forward to seeing more out next
time. The potential
is there for this to be the biggest tennis event in Fayetteville! Thanks again to our local sponsors. Bryan Honda/Cadillac,
Reed-Lallier Chevrolet, Healy Wholesalers, Cavins Business
Solutions, and Carolina Mortgage. Without their help, we wouldn’t
have been able to pull it
off.
Second
Annual Highland “Nog Bowl” Closing In
Yes, that’s right... you are reading correctly.
This December 13th, the “Nog Bowl” returns with a
vengeance. 4 teams
made up of 10-12 players will battle it out for holiday supremacy.
Last year team “Scrooge” emerged victorious…but had
stiff competition from team “Rudolph”.
Teams “Frosty” and “Baby New Year” will certainly
have something to say this year.
Beginning Monday, November 10th, we will begin
our sign-ups and start forming our teams.
We hope to make this year bigger and better than last, with
a tweaked format, better alcohol, and loads of fun.
Start picking out those red, black, blue, and white shirts. Invitational e-mails will go out on Monday the 10th.
New
And Improved Lights Brighten Night
Play
For those of you who like to play your tennis at night, we have
good news for you. Recently
we upgraded and replaced a large number of lights so the lighting
would be the very best. We hope you enjoy your evening play even
more now and we thank you for you patience.
Friday
Ladies Clinic Off And Running
Due to the tremendous success of the Monday clinic, we are
offering a Friday clinic from 9:30-11:00.
The theme will be drills for the first half of the session,
followed by doubles play with shot analysis and strategy
throughout. This will now give our ladies who cannot make Monday
morning, or who would like to come out a second time the
opportunity. The
price will be the same as the Monday clinic…$8

Session
VI Junior Clinics
Session VI
junior clinics are in progress, and will wrap up November 20th.
We made progress in our “sign-up” policy for clinics,
and I thank everyone who has made the effort to do so.
We have some great modifications for the upcoming 2009
